    JULY 2016

July was a strange month for Tomfoolery as we were not able to get together very often due to holidays and other commitments.  However, we are delighted to announce that we have two new band members, Pauline Vallance on clarsach, flute and vocals and Alan Brand on vocals and guitar and we have had several excellent rehearsals.  Madelaine is performing with us right up until the day before she moves to Colorado and we are looking forward to our first gig at Fringe by the Sea Festival this Friday, August 12th at 1pm where Alan will be joining us on stage for the first time.

We were told by Corstorphine Summer Folk Concert organisers that our harmonies were the "talk of the town" - in a good way :-) - and we have been invited back to Hebden Bridge for another concert there on September 3rd.

    JUNE 2016

So here we are, feet back on the ground at sea level, and sad to say that Madelaine is leaving us to move back to Colorado where her eldest daughter is in University and her youngest is going to attend High School.  We've know about this for some time and have been looking at the options for Tomfoolery.  Our band will continue and we have some exciting news to announce in the near future.  We were back at the Lighthouse in Prestonpans as part of the 3 Harbours Festival.  Tom was also involved as a judge in the songwriting competition and hosted a songwriting workshop in Loanhead Music Festival.  Madelaine is with us until September and we've quite a few gigs booked before then.  First up though, it's party time to celebrate Tom & Jane's 40th anniversary!  In July we are at Corstorphine Folk Club Summer Concert, followed by a private party and then we are launched into August with a gig in the beautiful Spiegeltent at Fringe by the Sea in North Berwick.

    APRIL/MAY 2016

What excitement - Madelaine went ahead to spend some time with her family in Colorado and Tom, Jane & Graham joined her in the middle of the month.  Having been delayed for 2 days due to the threat of a huge snowstorm which never actually happened, Tomfoolery were delighted to be back together again in Boulder, Colorado.  There followed 3 weeks of sightseeing, music, friendships old and new, lots of laughs and LOTS of driving.  We covered over 2,000 miles in our final week as we took a road trip from Boulder to New Mexico, through Arizona and Utah, visiting the Grand Canyon, Arches and Zion National Parks.  Did we mention eating and drinking?  We are Tomfoolery, do we have to mention there was eating and drinking?  Great time had by all and quite an experience singing at 5,000 - 10,000ft above sea level!

    FEB/MARCH 2016

February was fairly quiet for us as we were busy working on our trip to the USA.  We performed at a fundraiser for the Lighthouse Community project in Prestonpans, a beautiful refurbished old church, supported by our great friends The Domestics.  We also got ourselves a Twitter account!

March was busy with a St Patrick's Day fundraiser for Celtic Music Radio, a support spot for Karen Dietz & Richard Klein in Vibrant Arts, Musselburgh, and a performance at Leith Folk Club.  We added some more songs to our repertoire and are really pleased with our sound which continues to improve the longer we are together and the more often we rehearse - who knew :-)  We couldn't do this, though, if it wasn't fun!

    JANUARY 2016

Where did 2015 go?  We kicked off 2016 as guests of our friends Yard of Ale at T in the Car Park at the Aberdour Hotel on Jan 2nd, always a great afternoon and not too cold this year :-)

Later this month we are doing a professional photo shoot so you can check back for some updates pics on our website in the near future.  Tomfoolery is expanding, and not in a good way.  We reckon we need to loose the equivalent of about two people between us and we are all a bit worried about seeing these photos!!!

On Tues, Jan 26th at noon we have a 30min spot with Ross Macfadyen from The Sessions at Celtic Connections in Glasgow on Celtic Music Radio, 95FM and www.celticmusicradio.net

    DECEMBER 2015

A month of sessions, house concerts and rehearsals!  We also had a good time at the Fisherrow Centre at STRiVE's Food and Fun event where we joined our friend Davy Lees to entertain people who are alone over the festive season.  Many thanks to Davy for volunteering!

Tom and his friend and co-writer Bob Shields continue to have success on their Radio Show on Tuesday nights from 9 - 11pm on www.radiosaltire.org

    NOVEMBER 2015

The highlight for us this month was an unplugged performance at Hebden Bridge Therapy Centre in their function hall which had the most wonderful acoustics.  We enjoyed the company of some lovely people and were very grateful for the hospitality we received.

    OCTOBER 2015

Tomfoolery returned today from an absolutely amazing experience in Germany. We played 3 sell-out concerts and the other concerts were extremely well attended, we even received a standing ovation in Wolpinghausen and played more encores than we'd rehearsed! It was incredible to receive such a great reception and we're so pleased that people enjoyed the songs and performances.

ATTENTION - for anyone who purchased one of Tom's solo CDs, "As Eden Lay in Darkness" we've discovered that some of the shrink-wrapped cases were empty. If you were unfortunate enough to buy one of these CDs then please contact us telling us where and when you bought it, give us your contact details and we'll send you a new one.

Tom & Jane are enjoying their involvement with Vibrant Musselburgh's Arts Cafe in Fisherrow Community Centre, last Sunday of every month at 1pm - musicians, storytellers, poets - everyone welcome.

Madelaine & Graham usually perform as a duo at Leuchie House but will be joined by Tom and Jane in November for a Tomfoolery concert to entertain the wonderful guests of this excellent holiday/respite facility in East Lothian.

    SEPTEMBER 2015

We're getting really excited now as the time to leave for our German tour draws ever nearer, only just over 2 weeks and we'll be sailing! All our gigs are now confirmed and being advertised by the various venues so it feels very real. There is a list of venues published on our gigs page and for all our German fans it would be lovely to see you at any one of the locations we'll be visiting.

    JULY/AUGUST 2015

July and August flew by with holidays and the Edinburgh Festival.  Madelaine had her friends from Colorado visiting, Face Vocal Band, who are fabulous and had a 5 night run in a show at the Edinburgh Fringe.  www.facevocalband.com  Jane surprised Tom with a CD of some of his songs performed by musician friends and presented to him at his birthday party in the Fisherrow Community Centre.  It was a great night with so many talented musicians and Tom loves the CD!  A busy summer for all of us and we are now concentrating on rehearsals for our upcoming tour to Germany in October.
